"I think what's unique about Chattanooga is that it's such a welcoming community and is just so supportive of each other. Locals Only (Gifts and Goods) in particular, she is wonderful. I love Danielle and what she's curated. She supports so many other small businesses, not just me. So I try to buy stuff from our store because every purchase that I make there is supporting her but it's also going down the line. It's supporting another maker and their family."
"You know we want the makers to be the stars here,” said Locals Only owner, Danielle Landrum. “We want ourselves to be secondary and put our spotlight on the makers when people come here to this store."
Locals Only Gifts and Goods showcases not on Jaime’s work, but the work of nearly one hundred other creatives from across the Tennessee Valley.
"Everyone appreciates it, you know,” explained Landrum . “When we place an order for more goods to go into our store, a person is receiving that, just a local person that is thrilled to get the order. So when you're supporting us, you're supporting
a lot of other people."
Part of being an artist is having the ability to see things past surface level. And that perspective has helped a lot of creators throughout the roller coaster of 2020.
"This too shall pass. That's been my favorite mantra, this too shall pass,” reflected Barks. “I know for me, I've described it as a lot of my rivers of revenue have become streams this year. But what's been awesome is that I've opened up a lot of new streams. And I think a lot of businesses have had that opportunity to pivot and do things different.”
