New concept art for FromSoftware's ambiguous RPG Elden Ring has been briefly shown by an artist who worked on the game's original trailer. Elden Ring was first announced at E3 2019, but there has been virtually no official news about the game since then, leading to rampant speculation among FromSoft fans.
The excitement and anticipation surrounding Elden Ring has gone into high gear lately as rumors about an impending gameplay reveal have emerged. Multiple leakers and journalists have claimed that a new Elden Ring trailer will drop within the next month, providing a lot of details about the game as well as an official release date. Of course, the info coming from these sources is mostly hearsay and has nothing truly concrete to back it up. However, many of the claims between the different sources have been consistent and generally corroborate each other, and now there's even more fuel for that bonfire.
As picked up by IGN, a concept artist named Gabriel Bjork Stiernstrom recently posted a batch of original concept artwork for Elden Ring before taking it all down a day later. Stiernstrom had been one of the artists who worked on the announcement trailer for Elden Ring, and some of the recognizable images from that reveal were seen in their portfolio. There were also a number of new scenes within the portfolio that apparently never made it into the trailer, setting off another wave of conjecture and heated discussions among the FromSoft faithful. Apparently, this prompted the artist to delete all of their Elden Ring-related content from their website and social media channels.
In a statement on Reddit following their initial post, Stiernstrom was quick to deny any direct involvement or inside knowledge of the game. They said that they have never worked on Elden Ring itself and only shared this art as a selection of work that they're proud of. Regarding the concepts themselves, Stiernstrom stated that they were simply used for internal discussion and that "ideas change during production - what you do today is irrelevant tomorrow." The artist invited fans to analyze the concept art as much as they want, but emphasized that "I really have no knowledge of the game."
Despite Stiernstrom's denials, some fans have posited that the artist was only able to post the artworks in the first place because their non-disclosure agreement just ended. If that's true, it would imply that FromSoftware is indeed getting ready to unveil much more about Elden Ring and its gameplay in the near future. In any case, it won't be long until fans get to see if there's any truth to these rumors.
