Local artist staying creative despite canceled shows during pandemic - WHEC

This year she has had to put her own twist on the festival season. This weekend she is hosting her own festival, selling original prints, mirrors, greeting cards, stickers and wine stoppers.

"I have a Front Yard Festival because I make a living doing art festivals and obviously, they were all canceled this year, so I decided I would just throw my own kinda like a garage sale but with art," Born said. "Everyone has to wear a mask, and we will have sanitizer and keep people six feet away from each other. It will be nice and safe and just a good way to see my costumers that I really miss, and show my art that I have been working on."

Normally, from May to December, Born will do around 15 shows. This year, this is her first one. 

"A lot of us have a lot of great customers who are very supportive and they buy online and they are commissioning us," Born said. "It's been doable. It's been tough, definitely. It's forced you to be more creative."

Though it has been a rough six months, Born has stayed positive and is using this as a time to reflect. 

"I have been forced to kinda find the positives in this year, and at first I was really scared when one festival after another was being canceled, but to be honest, I was starting to get pretty burnt out doing so many shows, and it was kind of a break for me," Born said. "I feel like I have really been able to dive into like really being creative again. I have been in business for 10 years, and I feel like this has probably been my most creative year since I first began." 

PS Enjoy Your Life Front Yard Fest is at 43 Westbourne Rd. by Seneca Park Zoo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday — rain or shine.
