Terri Lewis has been named October artist of the month for the Artists by the Lake club.
Ms. Lewis Is originally from Washington State and moved to Arizona about nine years ago. She attended Portland University, mainly in the arts, and lower Columbia college night classes. She worked as a florist and managed a floral shop in Longview, Washington. Ms. Lewis has always enjoyed all types of artistic design, but painting was a lifelong pursuit.
Ms. Lewis took a class from Dale German an artist from Hawaii who taught the pastel on linen technique.
“When I learned the technique of doing pastel on linen, I knew this is what I wanted to do,” stated Ms. Lewis. “My favorite subjects are southwest style animals such as horses, coyotes, elk and mountain lions. The fur is especially fun to represent in pastel. I also enjoy realistic painting of western cowboys and Native Americans.”
There are no other artists currently using pastel on linen as their medium, which makes her work even more impressive and original.
Ms. Lewis has received numerous awards at the annual Sun City Art Show and the Palo Verde Art Show. She is a member of WHAM, Palo Verde and Artists by the Lake art clubs. She is the hospitality chairman and serves on the gallery committee of Artists by the Lake. View her art at the Artists by the Lake Club display case on the second floor of the Lakeview Center, 10626 Thunderbird Blvd.
The art room is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily for members only. Social distancing and masks are worn at all times in the art room. A current RCSC card is required for membership. Email debdahlinart@yahoo.com or call Deb Dahlin at 315-591-650. Visit artistsbythelake.com.
