AITKIN — Sticks, stones, beads and bones — Pat Abraham combines natural materials in unique ways to create her assemblages.
Beginning Sept. 16, Abraham’s art will be featured at Ripple River Gallery near Bay Lake and will continue through October. For Abraham, her work follows a creative path that includes painting studies and woodworking skills and also draws on the discipline honed by a long-time career as a mathematics teacher, a news release stated.
“My art collages derive from my love of nature’s pieces and parts,” she stated.
Abraham, who lives on Ten Mile Lake in Hackensack, finds the supplies for her assemblages on the land and in the water around her. Stones are used as found, polished by lake waters and sand, and collected from near and far. Peeled dogwood sticks offer stark white forms. Weathered wood, driftwood, bricks, shells and miscellaneous found objects add texture and subtle color.
Noting that her major influences have been the works of Minnesota artists George Morrison, Marlon Davidson and Don Knudson, Abraham stated, “I strive for dramatic expressions of nature’s art.”
Ripple River Gallery is open with health and safety measures in place; masks are required.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
