The NFL Experience downtown is a great way for fans to get hyped up for the Super Bowl and to showcase some of the talent coming from the Bay Area.
And you can find visual artist Michael Vahl hard at work inside.
He’s making a giant painting of the two quarterbacks, and every single brush stroke matters.
“Some of my work’s landed in some great places, and I’m here now and have been asked to paint for the Super Bowl,” he said.
Michael uses oil paint with a method called dry brushing. Believe it or not, he’s never had any formal training.
“I’ve been drawing since I was five and picked up a paint brush when I moved to Tampa six years ago. And I haven’t stopped since,” he said..
Now at the age of 29, the Los Angeles native wants to embrace the Bay Area the best way he knows how – through his art.
“I had a family member here, and he had convinced me to move out here. And I took the leap and came out here and fell in love with it,” Michael said.
He has several murals around the region, but it’s this piece that is starting a new chapter in his life.
“I love art. I always wanted to be an artist, but I just never thought it would be on this scale. This is just the beginning, I feel like,” he said.
