FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A Fort Wayne artist is finally getting the chance to share his art after the pandemic caused some setbacks, and he’s focusing on the message of unity.
Artist Sam Parker says the idea of unity has inspired so many of his pieces.
Especially after all that has happened in the last year, he says he just wants people to come together.
"Art has always been a part of me, for as long as I can remember I was drawing,” Parker said. “It was in January of 2020; I was just working in the studio and I had all these visions of unity come to mind.”
Unity is the name of his latest series and he says it was supposed to be on display last year but then the pandemic hit.
“It’s almost like God was calling to me, there’s all this craziness going on in the world,” Parker said. “Like are you going to do anything about it?”
Not too long ago he was painting a commission piece for Michelle Fernandez, the owner of the Hair Department and Art 22 Academy cosmetology school.
He says she loved the piece so much she offered to host his entire art show.
"I Just have this hunger inside me to create artwork, I feel in the process of making art it just fills voids to be creative,” he said.
Parker got the chance to share his art and his message for unity.
“Stop trying to drive hate out with hate, and we just need to start being the light that drives out the darkness,” Parker said.
He says he wants his art to make people feel a sense of togetherness and be inspired themselves.
"Just do something, find a creative outlet whatever it is, you don’t have to pick up a pencil pick up something, an instrument, you never know it might change the world.”
Parker’s opening night for his art show is Saturday May 22nd from 6 to 9 at the Art 22 Academy.
There will be food and drinks by club soda as well as music by New Hippie Entertainment.
