Old Town Art Gallery in Eureka is continuing its guest artist program with a new artist for July and August. Kathryn Silvera, who works primarily in oils, is showing her work for the next two months.
“From the time I was a child, growing up surrounded by towering pine trees and wide-reaching oaks in the small town of Paradise California, layers were of interest to me — from the rings found deep within a tree, to desert sandstone’s colorful time-made transitions,” Silvera said. “The idea of such slow and steady growth, layer after layer, year after year enthralled me, it still does.”
“Even as change happens over time, life never slows. This is why I choose to make art that’s many layered and has the ability to help settle a storm, lift the spirit and celebrate nature at the same time. Each layer of oil is applied to help elevate the next, giving a piece its own history and emotion,” Silvera said.
Yvonne Jarrett, jeweler and new gallery member, is the featured artist for July’s Arts Alive!
“My passion is to create unique jewelry pieces with beautiful color combinations that are inspired by nature as well as the diversity of stones, colors, shapes and textures,” she said.
Jarret uses high-quality semi-precious gemstones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and natural crystals in combination with sterling silver, bronze, copper and leather. More of her work can be seen at www.etsy.com/shop/bijouxdYvonne.
