PEORIA (HOI) -- The Betty Jayne Brimmer Center hosted a Drag ‘n’ Paint event on Friday.
The event took the typical paint night party theme and added in a drag show. Different drag queens came out and performed for the audience. The M.C. for the night was Miss Flo No Mo.
Lifelong performer Trevor Neff created Miss Flo as his alter-ego.
“As Trevor, I would sit in the back bar and just drink,” Trevor said when asked about the difference between him and Miss. Flo, “Miss Flo brings out the more confident side of me.”
The idea for the event came from local artist Megan Couri. Couri told Neff she wanted to host an outlandish and interactive twist on a typical paint night.
“It is a paint night that you would traditionally see your mothers and grandmothers going to but then we just slide in a little bit of a drag show at the same time.” Neff said.
Neff said the event is open to anyone, and he hopes that people feel invited into his community.
“The Betty Jayne is an open space to invite everybody in and so is the drag community and so is the LGBTQ plus community in general,” said Neff.
Drag ‘N’ Paint happens every month at different bars in Peoria.
