ANN ARBOR, MI -- Officials are seeking an artist to paint a mural at Ann Arbor’s water treatment plant.
The mural is set for a “highly trafficked stairwell” at the plant, 919 Sunset Road. The contract being offered to the chosen artist is priced at $17,000.
The stairwell in question is highly visible to public visitors, officials said, adding the area is used to reach the second floor of the plant and is at the beginning of all water treatment plant tours.
The Ann Arbor Public Art Commission will also promote the art via its website.
The city lists three concepts for the stairwell. One, for the art to incorporate educational concepts tied to drinking water treatment. Two, reflecting the history of the plant, which dates back to 1930′s. Three, an encouragement of the artist’s creativity while still including educational components and the plant’s commitment to safe drinking water.
All artists interested in doing the project must have their applications in by Oct. 31. All applications will be evaluated by a city-appointed review committee, and a short list of artists will be given $250 to further their concept. A final decision is expected by May 2022.
