Brightening the dark underpass and sparking conversation is Juan Flores' goal. He is a local artist who was picked to paint murals on 12 columns underneath the Interstate 94 freeway at 4th and Becher streets. It's all part of a larger revitalization project with the city of Milwaukee on the city's south side. The city hopes to improve street safety, build a skate park and send a message with these paintings. Flores said the pieces already have people talking."Well, right now it's impacting, because a lot of people drive by and they say, 'That's great, that's great, you are spreading the message against reckless driving,'" he said. Each column depicts a story of how reckless driving can impact people.
