Working together in a community of artists, even virtually, can give us inspiration and creative energy to try new experiments and ideas in our own artmaking!
Join Barbara to make work that is all about exploring your own creative expression and hearing the power of your own voice through artmaking.
You will experiment with different mediums and each week will be structured around a different Art Historical theme or movement or around a particular artist's work.
Each week will include instruction and demonstration, virtual studio making-time in community with other participants, discussion and artist-centered critique.

Who can join: children 1st grade - 8th grade!
How many sessions per week?: Three, 1 1/2 hour sessions for four weeks, running.
What Days?: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays
When will it start?: Monday, June 22nd - Thursday, July 16th
Cost: $400 per family (which may include more than 1 school-age child), if you sign up for all 4 weeks OR $150 per individual week
Who is Barbara Bickart?
Biography
Barbara M. Bickart is an artist, educator, consultant, who has years of experience working in schools, arts institutions and community organizations, developing and implementing programs, curricula, workshops, and projects – engaging the arts as a means of community-building and working toward social justice.
She is an educator whose career began as the Assistant Director of the Bronx Literacy Center, where she implemented arts-based programming into curriculum. Then as the inaugural Director, of the Youth Enrichment Services Program of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center of New York, she developed an award-winning, arts-based program, serving young people from all over New York City. She works as a teaching artist and artist in residence with students K - 8 and spent this past year teaching at the Unity Charter School in Morristown. She has taught in higher education as full-time guest faculty at Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, NY), Moore College of Art & Design (Philadelphia, PA), and most recently at the School of the Museum of Fine Art (SMFA), Tufts University, Boston.
She is an interdisciplinary visual artist, whose project-based, socially engaged practice has developed over the past twenty years. Her work is primarily informed by the disciplines of video & filmmaking, performance and documentary studies with intersectionality at its center. It takes the form of video installation, video performance, experimental documentary, and mixed-media. Working throughout the U.S. and internationally, she has collaborated with marginalized communities such as LGBTQIA artists and activists in the U.S., Croatia, and Hungary, incarcerated women and boys in the U.S. and Brazil, families impacted by the rapid gentrification of their urban neighborhoods in the U.S., children in foster care in New York City, multigenerational residents of red-lined neighborhoods in North Philadelphia, young girls throughout metro Atlanta, and dancers in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Bickart's work has been exhibited in theaters, galleries, museums and public spaces globally, including locations London, Argentina, Israel, Croatia, Australia, Russia, Romania, Uruguay, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Memphis, and venues include Diverseworks Artspace, Houston; Galerija Nova, Zagreb; Martin Luther King National Historic Site, Atlanta; Atlanta Film Festival; On the Boards, Seattle; Dance Theater Workshop, NYC; Jersey City Museum, NJ; the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA; the Painted Bride Arts Center, Philadelphia, PA; the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH, among others.
WHEN, is a series of counter-monuments that engages questions about institutionalized violence in the American landscape as seen through the visitors to national historic sites and monuments. Bickart was the keynote presenter at DOCAM'14 held at Kent State University. The 11th annual meeting of the Document Academy, an international network of scholars, artists, and professionals in various fields, who are interested in the exploration of the concept of the document as a resource for scholarly, artistic, and professional work, where she presented WHEN in its entirety.
She's received multiple awards from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's "Artists and Communities" funding program, fellowships and residencies from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Artist Resource Media program of Dance Theater Workshop, NYC, New York State Council on the Arts, The Trust for Mutual Understanding and the Wexner Center for the Arts.
Bickart received her M.A. from the New School for Social Research in Media Studies.
