Royal Aides Are "Shocked by the Sheer Nerve" of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Recent Offer to the Queen - Yahoo Lifestyle

Hope you have a drink ready, because today's royal popcorn is extra salty. Like, extra extra.

So, at this point, it's probably pretty impossible *not* to know about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's (for lack of a better word) "feud" with the royal family ("feud" doesn't capture the nuance of the situation, but there isn't really a word for "escalating tensions as a result of ongoing lack of support/empathy, followed by a conscious decision to take some space and prioritize the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of a growing family, all against the backdrop of a global pandemic and a constant barrage of tabloid criticism that fueled a need to go public with a candid account of what happened, which fueled more tabloid criticism and a perceived lack of support, snowballing everything until it's impossible to tell where things actually stand between everyone involved." So, yeah, we'll go with "feud").

The Sussexes reportedly want to start the active work of rebuilding at least some of their royal family relationships. According to The Sun, Harry has been making "olive branch" calls to members of his fam and it's common knowledge among royal fans that he and Meghan would reportedly love to have their newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana, christened in the United Kingdom (Windsor Castle is usually cited as a likely venue). Harry and Meghan have even reportedly offered to plan the christening around the Queen's notoriously busy schedule because having her there for the milestone is a top priority. The Sussexes have also, according to the Sun report, requested a meeting with the Queen during their next trip

This all seems, well, objectively thoughtful and kind and part of making a good faith effort to reconnect on Harry and Meghan's part, right? Well, royal insiders do not see it that way. Apparently, at least some royal staffers actually think it's the opposite and that Harry and Meghan's offer to fly across the Atlantic with a toddler and a newborn and to plan the christening around the Queen's availability is actually pretty rude.

“Harry and Meghan have made this offer but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it," a source told The Sun. "They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year."

The Queen is reportedly taking her time replying to the offer. While there have never been reports that she has anything but love for Harry and a desire to spend time with her great-grandkids (she hasn't seen Archie since late 2019 and has not yet met Lilibet, who was born in June and whose name is actually a direct tribute to the Queen), the Sun's source says tensions are still so high that the Sussexes might not even be invited to the royal family's Christmas festivities this year, let alone granted any other meeting time with the Queen. Which, um, 😳 😳 😳.

"Her Majesty’s staff have not responded so far. In fact there has also been discussion about Christmas—and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan, after they spurned one last year," the source added. "The Queen is still very fond of Harry, and would love to see Lilibet and her brother Archie. But courtiers are surprised by the move, especially from Meghan, after what has happened."

I repeat: 😳 😳 😳.
