Artists Lynne Scott Constantine and Suzanne Scott Constantine will investigate what “transformation” means in a post-pandemic world through their multimedia exhibition Awaiting Further Transformation, which will open at Dare Arts in Manteo on Friday, August 5, 2022.
The two creatives look back on the cultural, social and personal upheavals of the last few years through their paintings, mixed media, and photo-based artwork, and invite us all to ask ourselves, “Now What?”
“The artwork we created for this exhibition reflects our search for imagery that can do justice to the pain, loss, and confusion of the last few years,” said Lynne Scott Constantine. “We hope that our exhibition and the opening night performance can help everyone find new ways to move forward with compassion, solace and hope.”
Lynne and Suzanne will premiere a new performance work, Awaiting Further Transformation: A Performance for Eight Voices at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 5.
Awaiting Further Transformation: A Performance for Eight Voices was created collaboratively with the six Outer Banks poets, performers, storytellers, and musicians listed below.
- Suzanne Blackstock, flutist, teacher, band director
- Emma Bland, storyteller, spiritual advisor, creator
- Lynne Francis, artist, poet, Dare Arts gallery director
- Linda L. Lauby, artist, writer, publisher
- Mary Ann Remer, mixed media artist, printmaker, writer
- Eve Turek, photographer, speaker, writer
“This is the first time we’ve worked with community artists in our live performances,” said Suzanne Scott Constantine. “The synergy that has emerged through this collaborative process has been remarkable.”
The 45 minute performance was written and created by the individual performers and brought together in a storyline architecture that Lynne Scott Constantine devised and musical director Suzanne Blackstock further shaped through her extensive research for the musical accompaniment.
“I am honored to be included in Suzanne and Lynne’s investigation of transformation – as women, as beings, as bodies – especially now, when writing, composing, and making art can be transformative,” said artist, poet and Dare Arts Gallery Director Lynne Francis.
Doors will open at 5pm and Awaiting Further Transformation: A Performance for Eight Voices will begin at 5:30pm in the Courtroom Gallery. The performance is free and open to the public.
Following the performance, guests will be able to meet the artists and view Suzanne and Lynne’s visual art exhibition Awaiting Further Transformation, which features 30 pieces of mixed media.
Awaiting Further Transformation will remain on display in Dare Arts’ Courtroom Gallery through Saturday, September 17, 2022.
The exhibition and performance are made possible in part by an Artist Support Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council.
