Sonoma’s 2022 Treasure Artist Pat Meier-Johnson, a “slice of life” artist who will showcase her oil paintings and prints at Vintage House through September.
She will be available to discuss her works on two Wednesdays this month, Sept. 7 and 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free and Vintage House is open to the public. The showcase of art at Vintage House is an ongoing collaboration featuring artists from the Arts Guild of Sonoma.
Meier-Johnson’s exhibit includes several new original oil paintings featuring colorful scenes of Sonoma life from children at the Plaza pond to rescue chickens living at Charlies Acres animal sanctuary in Sonoma. Her prints and paintings are available for purchase.
“One of the wonderful things about living and painting in Sonoma is that there is no shortage of images to capture. Sonoma’s people and places make me thankful every day that we are living here. And the more I paint, the more tips I get of places I might like to paint both here and around the world from people who like my work,” Meier-Johnson said.
Earlier this year the Sonoma Cultural and Fine Arts Commission named her Treasure Artist, honoring both her talent as a painter and for her involvement in Sonoma nonprofits including the Sonoma Plein Air Foundation, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, Teen Services Sonoma and the Sonoma Land Trust. She also received special recognition of the Sonoma Board of Supervisors and U.S. Congress.
Meier-Johnson has studied with internationally acclaimed artist and former Sonoma Treasure Artist Chester Arnold, Carol Smith Myer, Disney Imagineer George Scribner and photographer Joe Baraban. She is married to author, filmmaker and photographer Russell Johnson.
