- In short: Artist Eleonora PulcinI has opened a new gallery in Launceston's Quadrant Mall after successful, sell-out shows.
- What's next? Eleonora’s art will be showcased at the Italian Parliament at the end of the year
Italian-born artist Eleonora Pulcini has exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, but it is in Launceston's Quadrant Mall that she has opened a new gallery after making Tasmania home.
EP Gallery showcases the world-renowned artist's rich, oil paintings of the rugged and wild state, but the gallery's focus is not to sell paintings.
"You cannot buy anything in there," Pulcini said.
"This is just for the community to come in and enjoy without the pressure of having to buy something or feel bad because they can't afford a painting," she said.
"I value much more the experience that people will have with my paintings, more than money that I can make from them. That's what art is about. You know, it's connecting and sharing emotions."
Born in Rome, Pulcini began painting at age six, learning her skills at an oil painting course with Maestro Vittorio Comez.
"But that became quite expensive for my family to support. So, I sort of put it to the side," Pulcini said.
Later, the artist studied a degree in civil engineering and architecture at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
"…until one day I just bought a one-way ticket to Australia," Pulcini explained.
She moved to Melbourne in 2012 and returned to her first love, painting.
"My first exhibition was in Burnie and surprisingly I sold every single painting in one night," she said.
"So, I pushed back my return ticket to Melbourne and travelled around Tasmania and of course fell in love with it. How could I not? It's one of the wonders of the world."
Italian Parliament to exhibit paintings
Pulcini's scientific knowledge, love for philosophy, the study of colours, shadows and geometry have a place in her paintings or in their conception.
Soon, 20 of the artist's landscape paintings will travel to the Italian Parliament for an exhibition titled My Tasmania.
It will be opened by Italy's undersecretary of culture, and art critic Vittorio Sgarbi.
Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer, said Tasmanian artists such as Eleonora Pulcini helped shine a spotlight on the arts sector in the state.
"Tasmania is a truly inspiring place for artists, as Eleonora demonstrates through her vibrant and beautiful landscape works," Minister Archer said.
"It is wonderful that Eleonora has chosen to call Tasmania her home. We're excited that, through her paintings, she in turn seeks to inspire Italian audiences to learn more about our state and its spectacular beauty," she said.
Pulcini said sending her paintings to Italy would "probably be the biggest milestone of [her] career".
"And I am so glad that I am going to be bringing Tasmania to my home country and ultimately, they'll forgive me that I will never come back."
