Paulina Porizkova's sexy lingerie photo declaring, “Women feel as much pleasure from sex as men" sparked an Instagram debate on sexism.
The Czech supermodel, 55, recently shared a photo of herself wearing a black bra-and-underwear set with thigh-high stockings. “Having been raised in Sweden in my sexually formative years, I can honestly say I’ve never had sex FOR a man,” she wrote. “Meaning, to PLEASE a man. Sure, if you are in a long term relationship, sometimes you will do your partner a favor. But that’s love. Can you have sex without love? We all know this is not a problem for men. But most women insist on a connection before they are turned on.”
She drew from evolutionary theories to make her next point writing, “This may be basic biology: when having sex, it’s always the woman who gets stuck with the check. So, it would make sense she makes sure she can trust her partner. But since the advent of the pill, women have choices. Not as many as men, to be sure, but way more than in the past. So is this still [a] relevant response to sex a social construct, or a biological inevitability?”
Porizkova added, "Women feel as much pleasure from sex as men, in fact, I’d argue, more! We can have multiple orgasms, and have sex far longer. It’s true that when one is in love, the sexual act takes on the “making love” aspect. It enriches and brings sex to another level. But what’s wrong with basic sex? After all, you don’t need every meal to be a gourmet delight. Most of the times you eat to satisfy your body.”
Clarifying “GENTLEMEN, this is NOT an invitation to make lewd comments,” Porizkova asked her female followers to chime in.
Padma Lakshmi was here for it. “I think it depends on your personal sexual history and what you’ve been through,” wrote the 50-year-old Top Chef host. “Anything is possible if you have trust, and feel personal safety, at least for me. Because while one may not need love to enjoy sex, one needs to feel safe to really let go. And sex is great when you can really let go. Porizkova replied, “Well, certainly she should get to pick.”
While Two And a Half Men actress Kristin Bauer wrote, “For sure the Swedish have it more right than in America! I was raised with ‘a man won’t buy the cow if he can get the milk for free.’” Referring to how men and women are allowed by society to enjoy different sexual freedoms she said, “But for ME....you had to stay a virgin and only bad girls messed around. And so when I messed around I was ashamed and hid it. And when I was taken advantage of, I dared hit tell a sole as I would have been blamed. America has it ALL wrong.”
"Yes Queen!" wrote Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna.
Porizkova's followers gave input: "Not afraid to ask for what I want in the bedroom," wrote one. Another admitted, "The guilt instilled in so many woman that sex is for reasons other than enjoyment makes me sad. It's ok to know and understand our bodies in every way." And the model's post was called a "provocative" conversation starter.
