Dear Community,

Did you know…

That the City of Eureka is planning on removing all of the artwork on the utility boxes in Eureka?  I am one of many artists in this area that have painted these boxes.  My concern is that there is much really fine art that they are planning on painting over.  My initial reaction was that there seems to be a large lack of respect for the time and energy to create many truly fine art pieces.  Would this not qualify as a vandalism of our local art?

I would like to appeal to anyone who has enjoyed the art on the utility boxes to tell their supervisor about saving the art and open a discussion about the blatant disregard for all of the effort and time creating these mini murals.

Sending a letter to the city could be that first step in stopping this.  Next should be a discussion of what else should this fund for overpainting could be better  be used.

Please voice your opinion.  This topic seems to be moving along without any public opinion considered.

I am the artist that created four boxes-Black Bear in Blackberry patch, Leaping Steelhead in Mattole Valley, Homage to Humboldt Bay Fire and Homage to the Coast Guard.
