RAYMOND (WGME) - During this holiday season, victims and families of the Lewiston mass shooting are in everyone's hearts.
An artist in Raymond is helping capture the memory of each person who died with customized holiday ornaments.
Crystal Tidwell is a local artist; her studio is in the basement of her Raymond home.
"I design the file on my computer, and then I put the wood in, and it engraves it,” said Tidwell. “And then I clean it up after."
Tidwell says she's doing what she does best: creating art.
These ornaments are designed to honor and remember each one of the victims from the Lewiston mass shooting.
With the holidays here, she wanted to make a special ornament for each person that lost a loved one that night.
"Being able to have something to hang on their tree, you know Christmas is such a family time and everybody is missing that part of their family,” said Tidwell. “So, to have them front and center to know that other people are thinking about them."
Her wooden ornaments have the names of each victim, customized for each family.
For folks that want to show their support, they can buy these ones with every single victim's name etched in.
The proceeds go to those affected by the shooting.
"It's not just the victim's families that are hanging it but like everybody around the state is having that way of remembering people,” said Tidwell.
Tidwell made tumblers and earrings too, “Lewiston Strong” at the center of each piece.
These ornaments aren't just for the holiday season.
"Not only can they put them on their tree, but they can remember them all year,” said Tidwell.
Tidwell crafted them with a touch of a holiday theme but says they can be left up year-round.
She says victims’ families have been so thankful for her support.
"Just knowing that they know that people care enough to try and do what they can,” said Tidwell. “It's been a really nice response."
Tidwell has sold more than 600 ornaments so far and donated more than $6,000 to the victim’s family GoFundMe.
