HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Calling all creatives! The Town of Ashland in Hanover County is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a large-scale public artwork at the western entrance of Downtown Ashland, situated at the intersection of US Route 1 and England Street.
The future artwork site is highly visible, as it serves as the primary entrance to the town’s Downtown area and is close to both Interstate 95 and US Route 1. As such, will be viewed by residents, tourists, cyclists and other visitors when entering and leaving Ashland.
“Ideal works of art would create an arch or archway effect to welcome visitors and perhaps tell Ashland’s story or history, strengthen community pride, evoke feelings of inspiration or joy, encourage fun and play or outdoor recreation, cultivate community dialogue, foster reflection, promote unity and connectedness or instill a sense of home and place,” said a spokesperson for the town.
Artists or teams of artists have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 25, to apply.
The budget for the chosen project will be $60,000 and an honorarium will be awarded for up to 3 finalists, according to the spokesperson.
For more information, visit the request for qualifications or contact Martha J. Miller at mmiller@ashlandva.gov or 804-798-9219.
