Gucci Mane has announced the death of his former artist Enchanting. She was 26 years old.
On Tuesday, June 11, the 1017 Records founder (born Radric Delantic Davis), 44, confirmed the death of his protégée (whose real name was Channing Nicole Larry) via social media.
“So sad to have to say R.I.P to such a great young lady a true star we gone all miss you Chant @luvenchanting 😢 💔,” Gucci captioned a photo of her on his Instagram account.
False reports of her death began circulating on Monday, June 10. Following the confirmation of her death on Tuesday, tributes began pouring in via social media.
Prior to her death, Enchanting was signed to his 1017 Records label in 2020, per New York’s Hot 97 radio station. “She appeared on 3 compilation albums before she left the label in 2023,” they added.
The rising star reportedly died after being taken off of life support at a hospital.
In a statement to The Shade Room, a representative from her management team said the 26-year-old was suffering from withdrawals and had overdosed.
“She came to my house the last four days to get clean. She tried her best and I did everything I could to help her, she tried,” the rep told the outlet.
According to her 1017 Records profile, which is still active on the label’s website, Enchanting “began to pursue music around the age of 18,” and started focusing on her craft after her high school graduation.
The rapper spoke about having to find her style after previously thinking she sounded like “a little baby” earlier in her career.
“I had to get comfortable with my voice,” she said, per 1017’s website. “Staying in the studio and constantly recording, it helps me find the style I can be good at.”
Further elaborating on her style, she said, “It’s like Trap-n-Blues.”
“Other people can relate to the things I say. I might help somebody through any situation, they can listen to me and find peace,” the rapper continued.
In a 2021 interview, she explained that she was an “army brat” who was born in Germany, and called Forth Worth, Texas, her home after also living in Atlanta until the fifth grade.
