Packers fans appear to be turning the page on the Aaron Rodgers era very quickly.
A mural in the city of their former QB was quickly painted over — just hours after the 39-year-old signal caller was finally traded to the Jets on Monday.
Local artist Beau Thomas, who paid tribute to Rodgers with the mural in 2021 — posted a time-lapse video to Instagram of him painting over the bust of Rodgers wearing a crown with the words “King in the North” next to him with the Boys II Men track “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” playing.
The wall was painted black with a white skull on it instead.
“End of an Era …” Thomas wrote in the caption.
“As a lifelong Packers fan and resident of Green Bay, I really appreciate what the team does and means for our community,” Thomas said in 2021 according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. “Rodgers has brought us so many great moments and victories throughout his years here. This was my way to celebrate him, his success and to say ‘thank you.'”
Rodgers said goodbye to the city in a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday.
Aaron Rodgers traded to the Jets
On Monday, after months of speculation and rumors, the Jets and Packers came to an agreement on a trade that brings four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to New York.
The trade immediately upgrades the Jets from rising team to playoff contender with the hopes that Rodgers will help break one of the longest active postseason droughts in sports.
The trade
The Jets receive: Aaron Rodgers, No. 15 pick (2023) and No. 170 pick (2023).
The Packers receive: No. 13 pick (2023), No. 42 pick (2023), No. 207 pick (2023) and a conditional second-round 2024 draft pick that conveys to a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of the Jets’ plays in 2023.
What comes next
The trade still needs to be finalized — the terms of Rodgers’ contract need to be worked out — and sent to the NFL.
Both teams will begin feeling this deal as early as Thursday at the 2023 NFL Draft.
For the Packers, it’s now about getting fourth-year QB Jordan Love ready to take over. With Gang Green, it’s about getting a whole host of new faces on the same page offensively.
Where is Rodgers currently?
The 39-year-old was out and about in Calabasas, Calif. when he got word of the trade, all smiles as he picked up coffee and groceries. For Rodgers and Jets fans, it’s hopefully just the beginning of their good times.
Rodgers, who took over for Brett Favre, spent 18 seasons in Green Bay, winning one Super Bowl and four MVPs while only twice posting a losing record as a starter — including 8-9 last season.
In exchange for Rodgers, the Jets are swapping the No. 13 pick in this year’s draft for the Packers’ selection at No. 15.
The Jets will receive a fifth-round pick (No. 170 overall) in this year’s draft.
Gang Green are also sending Green Bay a second-round pick (No. 42 overall) and a sixth-round pick (No. 207 overall) in this year’s draft as well as a 2024 conditional pick that will be a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays for the Jets in 2023 or a second-round pick if he does not.
With Rodgers gone, the Packers are handing the key to the franchise to quarterback Jordan Love.
