She just did Battle against a more experienced singer and wowed all four coaches on “The Voice.” But was it enough to send this Michigan teen to the third round, the Knockout Round, of the hit NBC singing competition.

19-year old Grace West, who is from Canton in Metro Detroit, performed “I Told You So” by Randy Travis with and against Carlos Rising from Cleveland, Tennessee for her second round, the Battle Round, performance, airing on Monday, April 3.

West moved to Nashville more than a year ago after graduating high school to work as a songwriter and pursue her dream of becoming a singer. Both she and Rising are on Blake Shelton’s team and it would be up to him to decide which singer moves on to the next round.

West became Shelton’s last ever chair turn in his 23rd and final season after she performed “Maybe It Was Memphis” by Pam Tillis for her Blind Audition on March 21st. Before Shelton would choose who would advance after tonight’s Battle, he received input from the other coaches.

“Grace, that was magic,” said Niall Horan. “Your voice is just phenomenal. You’ve got a real classic tone. I’m sad I didn’t get you in the first place. I think you could go all the way. I would lean toward Grace.”

“I think that was evenly matched. I couldn’t even tell you which way to lean,” added Chance the Rapper.

“What’s cool about you is that you have this really special, unteachable thing. It’s your tone and it’s your sole and you’re singing through it and it sounds pure to me,” said Kelly Clarkson. “I think I’m leaning toward Grace just because I love that sound. It’s beautiful.”

“Grace, it’s not about doing a bunch of different things for you,” said Shelton. “It’s that you’re doing what you were born to do and that’s country, whether you like it or not when it comes out of your mouth, and you embrace that and that’s what makes you classic. I do think this was evenly matched.”

Shelton then chose Grace to to advance to the next round.

“I just feel like Grace has an edge on a lot of artists in this competition because she’s so authentic in what she does,” Shelton said after choosing her. “She could be a huge artist in country music and I want to be a part of that journey.”

“Grace did and exceptional job and I’d be shocked if she weren’t in the finale,” Clarkson added.

West now moves on to the Knockout Round which should begin in the next few weeks as the Battle Round continues.

West is one of two singers from Michigan to land on a team during this season’s Blind Auditions. Detroit’s Chloe Abbott got a spot on Chance The Rapper’s team after her Blind Audition on March 14. The 24-year old is also training to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris in the 400 meters. Her Battle Round performance has not yet aired tonight.
