A Hollywood special effects makeup artist has been taken out of intensive care at a Los Angeles hospital after being stabbed multiple times inside her home by a man her friends say is an ex-boyfriend.
Allie Shehorn was discovered bleeding out on May 23 at her home in the Shadow Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles by a friend, identified as Christine White in a GoFundMe page set up to help with her medical bills stemming from the attack. The 35-year-old, who has worked on Hollywood productions like Babylon and Rebel Moon, had taken out a restraining order on her alleged assailant and he had been released from jail days before the attack, friends said.
Shehorn, who KTLA reports was stabbed over 20 times, has undergone multiple surgeries since the attack on Thursday, which have focused on closing the wounds on both the right and left sides of her body, including wounds to her neck, her friend Emily MacDonald shared on the GoFundMe page.
“I found her and I had to go into the bedroom where it happened. That wasn’t a pretty sight,” White told KTLA. “This is not the kind of thing that should happen to anybody. You don’t think this is ever going to happen to you.”
Doctors on her medical team say that they are “cautiously optimistic” and that she is “very stable,” the GoFundMe states.
The Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department’s emergency medical technicians confirmed they responded to a predawn report of a domestic incident on Thursday in Shadow Hills. Once they arrived, they found that a person had been stabbed, The Los Angeles Times reported. The attacker fled the scene before police arrived, according to law enforcement.
Friends of Shehorn wrote on the GoFundMe page indicating the alleged attacker was someone she met recently on a movie set and was known to some of them. Friend Jed Dornoff wrote on the GoFundMe page that the man has now been caught and detained.
“The man (not naming him, he does not need or deserve the attention) who did this is caught,” Donoff wrote, adding that “he was caught trying to flee the country on the Texas and Mexican border. He is being held in Texas currently as far as I know.”
Calls and outreach attempts by The Hollywood Reporter to the LAPD to confirm the arrest were unanswered. A message sent to MacDonald was not immediately returned.
As Shehorn recovers, friends say that she has stabilized and is now able to speak; and she’s even eating pudding, one wrote.
“She is still determined not to let this beat her,” Dornoff wrote as an update, “and is pushing through the pain to heal.”
